Do you want to copyright something you think might be incredibly valuable? Turning your scholarship and ideas into products is a way to have real social impact, and also generate revenue. If you are this person, you may be a budding entrepreneur – or, since there are two bottom lines at stake – you are what is known as a “social entrepreneur.” The mission of the Concordia University Technology Transfer Office is to help you translate your ideas into social impact.

Technology transfer is the process of translating ideas and creations that can be patented or copyrighted into commercial products. This is something universities have become involved in since the Bayh Dole Act was passed in 1980. Concordia University now has a Technology Transfer Office (TTO) that is p艺术 of the 研究处 and Sponsored Programs (ORSP).

Meet our entrepreneur-in-residence

Concordia University is pleased that Loren Peterson, an experienced local entrepreneur, has been engaged to serve as Concordia’s Entrepreneur-in-Residence on a p艺术-time basis effective June 15, 2017. 在这个新角色中, it is intended that Loren will support Concordia’s process for evaluating technologies for commercialization; assist with business development and patent commercialization activities; meet with faculty innovators to discuss commercialization and new venture formation; and, 在适当的地方, provide coaching and mentoring on enterprise launch, 融资, market entry and other topics pertaining to the creation of new entrepreneurial ventures.

Loren is an entrepreneurial advisor and founder of EAS-MKE, 有限责任公司, a consulting firm working with institutions of higher education as well as their faculty and students on strategies and tactics for developing and commercializing innovative research, often through the formation of new companies established for this purpose. He has extensive operational experience with small-to-medium-sized businesses and has successfully financed and grown several drug development companies. Prior to forming EAS-MKE, Loren was a Managing Director and Chief Financial Officer for Venture Investors, 有限责任公司, a leading venture capital firms in the Midwest, focused on making seed and early stage health care and technology investments. Loren was responsible for all operations of the company’s capital p艺术nerships including investor relations, financial reporting, 法律, 会计, 估值分析, and audit and tax compliance and issues. Earlier in his career, he worked for 15 years as a CPA and another 17 years as an executive in the pharmaceutical and drug development industry, which includes serving as President, CEO and Director of Milwaukee-based ZyStor Therapeutics from 2003 until 2010, when it was acquired by a large pharmaceutical company.
